Make a plan to succeed

As the saying goes, a goal without a plan is just a dream.  Here are 5 simple tips to make your goals a reality.

Step one: Determine your vision

To create a sound plan, you need to determine your overall vision. Some things to think about if you’re stuck:

Where do you want your business to be in one, two or even five years?

Are you happy with your space, or do you want to move to a larger building?

Have you considered branching out and making more locations?

What do you want to be doing at your business; do you still want to be part of the day-to-day running of the salon or would you like to take a step back and hire a salon manager?

Step two: Reflect on your business

To understand what needs to be done to get closer to your vision, you need to understand where you are now.

Look at every aspect of your business, from staff to the physical location and design of your space, and think about whether they align with your vision. Are you attracting the customer base you’re looking for?

Look at your financials! Kitomba has hundreds of reports that can help you better understand your business. Do you have the disposable income to support new staff and growth? Or do you need to start with smaller goals that cost less and build up to those larger goals?

Step three: Set goals for the year

Once you know what your starting point is and where you want to be, identify two or three goals that you’d like to achieve over the coming year.

Ensure your goals are S.M.A.R.T, they should be: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Timebound.

Step four: Create a plan for each goal

Once your goals are set, break them up into a series of more manageable tasks or projects. For example, if your goal is to grow the number of staff, you need to ensure you’ll have the client base, the physical space, and the income to support hiring another stylist.

For each goal, you want to clearly define the following:

  • A clear description of what needs to be done.
  • Who is involved and what is their role in making this goal come to life.
  • A due date that it should be completed by.

Step five: Keep a record

Now, all you need to do is create a timeline for those tasks, add them to your calendar to make deadlines, and you’ll be off to the races!

I’d recommend getting a wall planner and placing it in a visible spot for your staff to see. Add on all the tasks and the due date of each. Crossing off tasks when they’re completed helps your staff feel accomplished and that visible plan will help them feel they are achieving their goals.

Play the long game

Finally, remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither was your salon! It takes time to create a great workplace, and while you cannot expect success immediately, you will get there with a powerful team to back you, the power of Kitomba Salon and Spa Software at your helm, and a strong plan on how your business can be the best it’s ever been this year.
