If you reveal your secrets to the wind, you should not blame the wind for revealing them to the trees — Kahlil Gibran
Data security is an ever increasing issue and an area of your business that can easily be overlooked, remain low priority and on the “to do” list until such time as it’s breached. When a stylist/therapist leaves your business with your database of clients the only choice you have is damage control. It’s always better to be proactive than reactive. The great news is there are simple steps you can take to protect your business info and client data.
If you have a computer and are using salon software use the security functions to allow different areas of access to individual staff members.
Make sure your policy & procedure manual outlines computer access/usage and protects your intellectual property and trade secrets.
Ensure you and your team are aware of privacy legislation and how it applies to client information.
Have a clear process in place for leaving staff around return of any business info, deletion of access to online resources and keys.
