The 2013 Kitomba NZARH Business Awards winners will be announced at the Auckland War
Memorial Museum on 20 October 2013. This gala dinner takes place in conjunction with HITO for
the HITO Awards at a joint annual event called the Industry Awards.

Kitomba NZARH Salon of the Year
The Salon of the Year is selected from the winners of all other Awards. In each category the judges are looking for the complete, profitable, salon business that performs to a high level in all areas. It has:
- Exceptional performance metrics eg rebooking %, retail %, average spend
- Planned and effective marketing
- Effective staff communication and incentives
- Efficient processes throughout
- A focus on growth and profitability
Grand Salon of the Year
The Grand Salon of the Year is selected from entrants with turnover of more than $600,000*. This category is results driven so judges weigh up performance figures relating to:
- Chemical services
- Profitability
- Rebooking
- Retail sales
- Treatment
- Utilization
- Wages %

Boutique Salon of the Year
The Boutique Salon of the Year is selected from entrants with turnover of less than $600,000*. This category is results driven so judges weigh up performance figures relating to:
- Chemical services
- Profitability
- Rebooking
- Retail sales
- Treatment

Sustainable Salon of the Year
The judges are looking for:
- Your initiatives relating to waste, travel, energy, water, building, community and other
- Sustainability ratings or how you measure the success of your initiatives
- How your sustainability initiatives fit into your overall business strategy
- How your sustainability initiatives have influenced your community, clients or other local businesses
Best New Entrant
This award recognises a first-time entrant in any category of the Kitomba NZARH Business Awards.
The judges are looking for an impressive, well thought-out application that demonstrates success in the categories they entered.
Excellence in Marketing
The judges are looking for activities that:
- Are planned
- Covers all of a salon's important audiences/channels
- Demonstrates creativity
- Is visually consistent
- Is measured
Employer of Choice
The judges are looking for:
- Good utilisation and wage numbers
- Evidence of ongoing communication both team and individual
- With staff training support reward and recognition
Fastest Growing Salon
The judges are looking for:
- Revenue
- Client numbers
- Client spend
Business Stylist of the Year
The judges are looking for a stylist who delivers business performance. Individual performance metrics reviewed include:
- Average client spend
- Chemical %
